Would you pay $.02 more cents??

The Upper Freehold Township Committee recognizes that no one wants higher property taxes,

but would you pay more now if you knew it would save you money later?  The best investment

that Upper Freehold Township residents, the State Agriculture and Development Board,

and the Monmouth County Agriculture Board have made has been in Farmland Preservation.

By preserving farmland you assure the continuation of the Agricultural industry in Upper Freehold,

you control development, and you maintain your tax base.   Although qualified farmland is taxed

at a lower rate it more than pays for it self because services associated with farms are minimal.

The Township is able to benefit from the net positive impact that farmland contributes to the local budget.

The Township Committee of Upper Freehold Township is considering increasing the Township’s open space tax levy by $.02; this measure was

considered last year and although the question on the ballot was approved the tax was never imposed due to an error in the ballot question.  This

year the Township Committee would like to repeat the question on the ballot, but they would now like to give you the opportunity to voice your

opinions and suggestions before hand.  You are welcome to do so by attending a Township meeting or respond by e-mail to bbascom@uftnj.com

Items to consider would be that the $.02 be dedicated to farmland preservation as opposed to acquisition of recreation, open space, historic

preservation or recreation lands.   The $.02 could be leveraged to pay the debt service on a bond that may bring over $2,000,000 to the program.

Let us know what you think……….and would you be willing to pay more than another $.02 (2-cents)???
