The assessor, Steve Walters, is in the Township at various times for inspections. He has office hours on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment (which may be scheduled through that office). The assistant to the Assessor is in the office on Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with the exception of time dedicated to field inspections).

FARMLAND ASSESSMENT APPLICATIONS
Upper Freehold Township is proud to have well over 500 participants assessed under the Farmland Assessment Act. This preferential assessment is made available to properties wherein a minimum of five (5) acres are actively devoted to agricultural or horticultural use (other rules apply). A major requirement is the annual filing of an application on or before August 1st.
If you are presently farmland assessed, you will receive the annual application form on or before July 1st. If you do not receive this form or require a new application, please call this office during business hours. The completed farmland assessment application must be returned on or before August 1st.
DEDUCTIONS
If you meet a set of requirements, set by the state, there are tax deductions of $250 annually available for the following: veterans, surviving spouses of veterans, disabled persons, surviving spouses of disabled persons, senior citizens and surviving spouse of senior citizens.
Among the requirements for any of these deductions is New Jersey citizenship/residency and property ownership as of October 1st of the year prior to the year in which the deduction is requested. Some, but not all, of the additional requirements are (for example)
VETERANS – honorable discharge, service in the U.S. armed forces during specific periods;
DISABLED – certification of permanent and total disability as of December 31st of the pre-tax year; and
SENIOR CITIZEN – proof of age (65 or more as of December 31st of the pre-tax year) and income received during the tax year, including claimant’s spouse.
Please note that the above requirements are only part of the overall requirements for the various deduction programs. If you qualify under these initial requirements, please contact the Assessor’s Office and application forms with full eligibility requirements will be mailed to you.
Please be aware that programs such as the Homestead Rebate and Save Programs are administered by the State of New Jersey and not handled by the Assessor’s Office.
